What it is
The Council of Ministers is the cabinet and principal executive authority of the Republic of Cyprus. Presided over by the President of the Republic, it is responsible for determining general state policy, supervising public administration, and introducing legislative proposals. Established in 1960 under the independence constitution, it originally featured a bicommunal power-sharing arrangement between Greek and Turkish Cypriots until intercommunal strife led to the withdrawal of Turkish Cypriot representatives in 1963.
