What it is
The National Assembly (Državni zbor) is the primary legislative and general representative institution of Slovenia, serving as the dominant house of the country's parliament. Its constitutional mandate includes passing legislation, amending the constitution, adopting the national budget, and appointing key public officials, including the Prime Minister. Established under the 1991 Constitution following Slovenia's independence from Yugoslavia, it replaced the prior socialist tricameral assembly and held its first elections in December 1992.
