What it is
The Prime Minister's Office (Statsrådsberedningen) is the central executive department responsible for supporting the Prime Minister and coordinating the work of the Government Offices of Sweden (Regeringskansliet). Its mandate encompasses steering overall government policy, coordinating political strategy, managing EU affairs, and overseeing national crisis response. Evolving from support functions originally housed within the Ministry of Justice following the creation of the prime ministership in 1876, it was established as an independent administrative unit in 1960 and integrated into the unified single-agency government structure in 1997.
