Bosnia and Herzegovina · founded 1996
What it is
The Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the three-member collective body that serves as the country's head of state, comprising directly elected Bosniak, Croat, and Serb members. It is responsible for conducting foreign policy, appointing diplomatic representatives, proposing the state budget, and serving as the supreme civilian command of the armed forces. Established under Article V of the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement to ensure ethnic power-sharing, the modern institution officially took office in October 1996 following the first post-war general elections.
