Estonia

What it is

The Estonian Internal Security Service (Kaitsepolitseiamet, commonly known as KAPO) is Estonia's primary domestic security and counterintelligence agency operating under the Ministry of the Interior. Its statutory mandate encompasses protecting the constitutional order, conducting counterespionage, countering terrorism, protecting state secrets, and investigating high-level official corruption. Originally founded on April 12, 1920, the agency was dismantled during the 1940 Soviet occupation and subsequently reconstituted in 1991 following the restoration of Estonian independence.
