Estonia

What it is

The Social Democratic Party (Sotsiaaldemokraatlik Erakond, SDE) is a major center-left political party in Estonia advocating social welfare, labor rights, and European integration. Its mandate within the Estonian political system centers on advancing social democratic governance, reducing economic inequalities, and participating in coalition governments. Tracing its roots back to 1905, the movement dominated the 1919 Constituent Assembly that established Estonia's first constitution, and in 2004 the contemporary party adopted its current name after operating through the 1990s as the Moderates alliance.
