What it is
The Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin is the unicameral state parliament of the German city-state of Berlin, serving as its supreme legislative body. It is responsible for enacting state laws, approving the city's budget, electing the Governing Mayor, and scrutinizing the Senate of Berlin. Established in 1951 under West Berlin's post-war constitution, it initially operated out of Rathaus Schöneberg under Allied occupation oversight during the Cold War. Following German reunification, it became the legislature for the entire city and relocated in 1993 to the historic former Prussian Landtag building.
