What it is
The European Parliament Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN) is a standing committee of the European Parliament responsible for European Union legislation and oversight in the areas of transport and tourism. Its remit covers the common European transport policy across rail, road, maritime, inland waterway, and air transport, including postal services and the development of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). Originating in 1952 as a committee of the Common Assembly of the European Coal and Steel Community, its legislative authority expanded substantially with the implementation of the Treaty of Lisbon in 2009.
