What it is

The Hydrocarbons Administration of Montenegro (Uprava za ugljovodonike) is a specialized state administrative authority operating under the ministry responsible for energy and mining. Its mandate is to manage, monitor, and regulate the exploration and production of oil and natural gas in Montenegro, oversee concession contracts, maintain geological and geophysical data repositories, and ensure environmental and safety standards during offshore drilling. Established by government decree in February 2015, the administration began full operations in 2016 to coordinate Montenegro's inaugural offshore exploration concession rounds in the Adriatic Sea with international energy consortia.
