What it is
The President of Montenegro serves as the country's directly elected head of state and commander-in-chief of the armed forces, representing Montenegro domestically and abroad while performing primarily ceremonial duties and promulgating laws. Directly elected for a five-year term with a two-term limit, the modern individual executive office was established under multi-party democratic reforms in 1990 before transitioning into the head of state of an independent nation following the 2006 independence referendum. Filip Vujanović became the independent republic's inaugural president, and the official presidential workplace is housed in the historic Blue Palace in Cetinje.
