What it is

The Ministry of Transport (Samferdselsdepartementet) is a government ministry in Norway responsible for policy, infrastructure, and regulation across roads, railways, civil aviation, coastal administration, and postal services. Established on February 22, 1946, it evolved from the earlier Ministry of Labour to centralize national communication and transit administration in the post-World War II era. Long known as the Ministry of Transport and Communications, it oversaw telecommunications until those duties were transferred to another ministry in 2019, prompting its renaming in 2020.
