What it is
The Supreme Court of Norway is the country's apex judicial body and the court of final appeal for civil and criminal cases. Its mandate is to ensure the uniform application, development, and clarification of the law, as well as to conduct judicial review of legislation and executive acts. Authorized by the 1814 Constitution of Norway, the court formally commenced operations in 1815 and became one of the earliest courts in Europe to establish the doctrine of judicial review in the 1820s.
