What it is
The Constitutional Court of Romania (Curtea Constituțională a României) is the sole authority of constitutional jurisdiction in Romania, operating independently from the three branches of state power. It is tasked with guaranteeing the supremacy of the Constitution by reviewing the constitutionality of laws, settling legal conflicts between public authorities, and overseeing presidential elections and referendums. Established following the adoption of Romania's 1991 democratic post-communist constitution, it officially began operations in June 1992 under Law No. 47/1992.
