What it is
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is the central executive agency responsible for directing the nation's diplomatic service and executing its foreign policy. Its mandate focuses on protecting Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity, organizing international coalitions and security assistance, providing consular protection abroad, and steering Ukraine's strategic accession to the European Union and NATO. Modern Ukrainian foreign diplomacy originated in December 1917 during the Ukrainian People's Republic, and Ukraine later served as an original founding member of the United Nations in 1945 before the ministry gained full sovereign authority upon independence in 1991.
