What it is
The Nordic Council is the official inter-parliamentary body for formal cooperation among the Nordic countries, serving as a forum for political dialogue and regional policy coordination. It is tasked with issuing initiatives and recommendations to member governments on cultural, social, and economic integration, having helped establish landmark initiatives such as the Nordic Passport Union. Founded in 1952 by Denmark, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, it was subsequently joined by Finland in 1955 following easing Cold War tensions.
