Austrian Regulatory Authority for Broadcasting and Telecommunications and Energy (E-Control)Government
Austria · founded 2001
What it is
Energie-Control Austria (E-Control) is Austria's independent national regulatory authority for the electricity and natural gas markets, tasked with promoting fair competition, monitoring security of supply, and safeguarding consumer interests. Established in 2001 under the Energy Liberalisation Act to oversee the opening of the Austrian energy market, it was later restructured in 2011 as a public-law regulatory authority. Although sometimes conflated with the Austrian Regulatory Authority for Broadcasting and Telecommunications (RTR), E-Control functions as a dedicated government regulatory body specifically for the energy sector.
