What it is
The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) is the judicial authority of the European Union, responsible for ensuring that EU law is interpreted and applied consistently across all member states, including Croatia. It adjudicates legal disputes between national governments and EU institutions, reviews the legality of EU acts, and issues preliminary rulings upon request from national courts. Originally established in 1952 under the Treaty of Paris as the Court of Justice of the European Coal and Steel Community, it assumed its current name and expanded judicial structure following the entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon in 2009.
