What it is
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland is the government department responsible for preparing and implementing the nation's foreign, security, trade, and development policies. It oversees Finland's diplomatic missions abroad and promotes Finnish interests within international organizations such as the European Union and the United Nations. Officially established in June 1918 shortly after Finland declared independence, the ministry began operations with just 17 officials and later played a vital role in steering Finnish diplomacy through the Cold War toward full European integration.
