What it is
The Ministry of Defence of Finland is a government ministry tasked with formulating national defence policy, maintaining national security, and providing administrative oversight of the Finnish Defence Forces. Established in 1918 shortly after Finnish independence as the War Department, it was renamed the Ministry of Defence in 1922 and coordinated national military mobilization through both the Winter War and Continuation War. Today, the ministry oversees Finland's comprehensive 'Total Defence' doctrine and integration into NATO.
