What it is
The Ministry of Economy and Finance is the department of the Government of France responsible for conducting economic and financial policy, formulating the national budget, and managing public taxation. Often colloquially known as Bercy after its distinctive riverside headquarters in Paris, its historical roots trace back to the royal financial administration under the Ancien Régime in 1518 before taking its modern republican structure in 1958. Long housed in the Richelieu wing of the Louvre Palace, the ministry famously relocated to its iconic purpose-built Bercy complex in 1989.
