What it is
The Overseas Gendarmerie Command (Commandement de la gendarmerie outre-mer, CGOM) is a specialized formation of the French National Gendarmerie responsible for law enforcement, public safety, and judicial police operations across France's overseas departments, regions, and collectivities. It also oversees gendarmerie personnel assigned to French diplomatic missions abroad and military provost detachments. While French gendarmerie overseas presence dates back to 1716 in Martinique, the modern unified command was formally established in 1989.
