What it is

The Regional Chamber of Accounts (Chambre régionale des comptes) is a specialized administrative financial court in France responsible for overseeing the public finances of local authorities and public establishments. Its mandate includes auditing the financial management, reviewing budgetary compliance, and judging the accounts of public accountants within its regional jurisdiction. It was established by the Defferre decentralization laws of March 2, 1982, to replace prior central administrative oversight with independent ex-post judicial review.
