Sub-Prefecture of PontivyGovernment

France

What it is

The Sub-Prefecture of Pontivy is a decentralized branch of the French state administration situated in the Morbihan department of Brittany, representing the central government and the departmental prefect at the local arrondissement level. Established in 1800 under Napoleon Bonaparte, the town was slated for major imperial expansion and renamed 'Napoléonville' in 1804. Its administrative scope expanded significantly in 1926 when the Poincaré administrative reforms abolished the neighboring arrondissement of Ploërmel, absorbing its territory into Pontivy.
