What it is
The Christian Social Union in Bavaria (CSU) is a centre-right, Christian-democratic and conservative political party operating exclusively in the German state of Bavaria. Its mandate focuses on representing Bavarian regional interests while participating in federal politics through a permanent Bundestag alliance with its sister party, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). Founded in 1945 following World War II, the party has dominated Bavarian state politics, governing continuously since 1957.
