What it is
The Federal Ministry of Health (Bundesministerium für Gesundheit) is a cabinet-level federal ministry responsible for public health policy, statutory health insurance, disease prevention, and pharmaceutical regulation across Germany. Founded in 1961, it was briefly merged into the Ministry for Youth, Family and Health before being re-established as an independent department in 1991 following German reunification. Today, it maintains its headquarters in Bonn alongside a primary seat in Berlin, overseeing key federal institutions such as the Robert Koch Institute.
