What it is

Landsréttur is the Court of Appeal of Iceland, serving as the nation's intermediate appellate court. Positioned between the District Courts and the Supreme Court, it reviews appeals in both civil and criminal matters to ensure a secondary assessment of legal issues and evidence. Established under the Courts Act of 2016 and commencing operations on January 1, 2018, its creation introduced a three-tier judicial system to Iceland for the first time since 1920.
