What it is
The Ministry of Justice (Icelandic: Dómsmálaráðuneytið) is a cabinet-level government ministry in Iceland responsible for the judiciary, law enforcement, public prosecution, immigration, and civil protection. Although a dedicated justice portfolio originated in 1917 and was formalized as a ministry in 1970, it was merged into the Ministry of the Interior between 2011 and 2017. The ministry was officially re-established in its current independent form on May 1, 2017.
