What it is
The Prime Minister's Office of Iceland (Forsætisráðuneytið) is the central government ministry responsible for supporting the Prime Minister and coordinating overall executive policy across the Cabinet. Tracing its roots to the establishment of Icelandic home rule in 1904, it oversees constitutional matters, government meetings, and cross-ministerial initiatives. It is housed in the historic Government House (Stjórnarráðshúsið) in Reykjavík, an 18th-century structure that originally served as Iceland's first prison.
