What it is

The Chamber of Deputies (Camera dei Deputati) is the lower house of the bicameral Italian Parliament, seated at Palazzo Montecitorio in Rome. Operating under a system of equal bicameralism alongside the Senate of the Republic, it holds the authority to pass legislation, approve the state budget, and grant or withdraw confidence in the government. Tracing its lineage back to the 1848 Subalpine Parliament and the 1861 unification of Italy, the modern republican assembly was established in 1948 following its dissolution under the Fascist regime.
