What it is

The Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia (Latvijas Republikas Ministru kabinets) is the supreme executive body of the Latvian state, composed of the Prime Minister and sectoral ministers. Its constitutional mandate is to direct state policy, implement laws adopted by the Saeima, draft legislative proposals, and manage the central state administration. It was originally established on November 18, 1918, as the Latvian Provisional Government led by Kārlis Ulmanis during the proclamation of independence, and was formally restored in 1993 following the end of the Soviet occupation and the re-institution of the 1922 Constitution (Satversme).
