What it is
The Government of the Republic of Lithuania is the cabinet and chief executive authority of Lithuania, headed by the Prime Minister and comprised of a council of ministers. It is mandated to implement national laws, administer state affairs, draft the national budget, and coordinate foreign and domestic policies under accountability to the Seimas. The institution traces its roots to November 1918, when Lithuania formed its first independent cabinet of ministers following the Act of Independence of February 16, 1918. Its modern constitutional framework was re-established after the restoration of independence in 1990 and formalized by the 1992 Constitution.
