What it is
The Lithuanian Armed Forces is the primary military defense organization of the Republic of Lithuania, comprising the Land Force, Air Force, Naval Force, and Special Operations Forces. Its mandate is to deter aggression, defend the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and contribute to collective security operations as a member of NATO. Originally established on November 23, 1918, during the Lithuanian Wars of Independence, the military was disbanded following the 1940 Soviet occupation and officially reconstituted after Lithuania restored its independence in 1990.
