What it is
The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania is the unicameral parliament of Lithuania, constituting the sole legislative branch of the state. Its mandate includes enacting laws, adopting state budgets, approving or supervising the government, and amending the constitution. Tracing its historical roots back to noble assemblies in 1445, the first modern democratically elected parliament convened as the Constituent Seimas in 1920, before being re-established in its current constitutional form following independence from the Soviet Union in 1990–1992.
