What it is
The Joint Court of Justice is the unified judicial body serving the six Dutch Caribbean territories, encompassing three autonomous constituent countries and three special municipalities of the Netherlands. It hears first-instance proceedings and appeals across civil, criminal, and administrative matters throughout the region. Tracing its lineage back to colonial judicial reforms in 1869, the court was restructured into its present multi-territorial configuration on October 10, 2010, upon the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles.
