What it is
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management is the Dutch government ministry responsible for transport infrastructure, aviation, maritime policy, and water management. Its mandate is to ensure national flood protection, safeguard freshwater resources, and maintain smooth, sustainable mobility across roads, railways, and waterways. Tracing its lineage to the creation of the Bureau voor den Waterstaat in 1798 and a dedicated ministry in 1809, it oversaw landmark engineering achievements such as the Zuiderzee Works and Delta Works before adopting its modern structure and name in 2017.
