What it is
The Ministry of National Defence (Ministerul Apărării Naționale) is the central specialized body of Romania's executive public administration responsible for formulating and implementing the country's national defense and military policy. Its mandate includes organizing, equipping, and directing the Romanian Armed Forces to ensure territorial integrity, sovereignty, and constitutional democracy. Established in 1862 following the union of the Danubian Principalities under Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza, the ministry guided Romanian forces through the 1877–1878 War of Independence and led the armed forces' modernization and interoperability reforms ahead of Romania joining NATO in 2004.
