What it is

The Parliament of Romania is the national bicameral legislature of Romania, consisting of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. As the supreme representative body of the Romanian people, it is responsible for passing legislation, approving the state budget, and exercising political oversight over the executive branch. Originally established in 1862 following the union of Wallachia and Moldavia, it was replaced by a communist assembly in 1948 before being reconstituted as a democratic bicameral legislature in 1990 following the Romanian Revolution.
