What it is
The Prefect's Institution of Tulcea County represents the national Government of Romania at the territorial level in Tulcea County. It is tasked with overseeing the enforcement of the Constitution and laws, coordinating deconcentrated public services of central ministries, and verifying the legality of administrative acts issued by local authorities. The institution was first established in November 1878 following the reintegration of Northern Dobruja into Romania after the War of Independence, with Gheorghe M. Ghica appointed as its first prefect. Dissolved during the communist regime in 1950, it was formally re-established in 1990 to uphold lawful public administration.
