What it is
The Romanian Naval Authority (Autoritatea Navală Română) is a specialized central government body operating under the Romanian Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. It serves as the national maritime administration responsible for maritime safety, vessel inspection, port state control, and the certification of seafarers. The authority was established in 2002 through the merger of the Civil Navigation Inspectorate and the Romanian Register of Shipping. Headquartered in the major Black Sea port of Constanța, it oversees shipping activities across Romania's navigable waters, including the Danube River and the Black Sea coast.
