What it is
The State Duma is the lower chamber of the Federal Assembly, serving as the primary legislative body of the Russian Federation. Its mandate includes introducing, debating, and voting on federal bills, approving the Prime Minister, and overseeing government operations. While an imperial predecessor was first created by Tsar Nicholas II in 1905, the contemporary State Duma was reconstituted in 1993 following the adoption of Russia's post-Soviet constitution.
