What it is

The Ministry for Demography, Family, and Social Affairs (Ministrstvo za demografijo, družino in socialne zadeve) is a cabinet-level executive department of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia. Its mandate is to formulate and implement state policies regarding population and birth rate trends, family welfare support, social security, child care, and assistance for vulnerable groups. Established in June 2026 through the reorganization of the social affairs and family portfolios to place national demographic renewal at the forefront of government strategy, it followed earlier attempts to address demographic challenges, such as the government Office for Demography operated between 2020 and 2022.
