What it is
The Cantonal Court of St. Gallen (Kantonsgericht St. Gallen) is the supreme judicial authority for civil and criminal matters in the Swiss Canton of St. Gallen. It serves primarily as the highest cantonal appellate court, reviewing decisions from lower district courts and ensuring uniform legal interpretation across the canton. Established in 1803 following the creation of the canton under Napoleon Bonaparte's Act of Mediation, the court is housed in a neoclassical former armory within the Abbey of St. Gallen district, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
