What it is
The General Directorate of Security (Turkish: Emniyet Genel Müdürlüğü) is the national civilian police force of Turkey, operating under the Ministry of the Interior. It is tasked with maintaining public order, preventing crime, and enforcing laws primarily across urban areas nationwide. Tracing its origins to the Ottoman Police Regulation enacted on April 10, 1845, the organization was later reconstituted into its modern republican framework under the Security Organization Law of 1937.
