National Intelligence OrganizationGovernment

The National Intelligence Organization (Millî İstihbarat Teşkilatı, MİT) is the primary state intelligence agency of the Republic of Turkey. It is tasked with gathering domestic and foreign intelligence, conducting counterintelligence and counterterrorism operations, and safeguarding national security under the direct authority of the Presidency. Established by law in 1965 as the successor to the 1920s National Security Service (MAH), the agency was reorganized in 2017 to report directly to the President of Turkey rather than the Prime Ministry.
