What it is

The Social Security Institution (Sosyal Güvenlik Kurumu, SGK) is Turkey's primary public social security agency, operating under the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. It is mandated to administer social insurance, universal health care coverage, retirement pensions, and disability benefits across the country. Established through Law No. 5502 as a cornerstone of national social security reform, it consolidated previously fragmented institutions—SSK, Bağ-Kur, and Emekli Sandığı—into a single unified system.
