What it is
Turkish Airlines is the national flag carrier airline of Turkey, operating scheduled passenger and cargo services to more destination countries worldwide than any other airline. Its mandate is to provide international and domestic air connectivity and advance the nation's civil aviation, tourism, and trade interests. Established on May 20, 1933, as the State Airlines Administration, it began operations with a fleet of only five aircraft before expanding internationally and transitioning toward partial public listing under the strategic control of the Turkish state.
