What it is
The Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania (Forcat e Armatosura të Republikës së Shqipërisë - FARSH) is the unified national military of Albania, comprising the Land Force, Air Force, Naval Force, and Support Command under the Ministry of Defence. Its constitutional mandate is to safeguard the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and constitutional order of the state, protect the civilian population during emergencies, and fulfill collective defense obligations as a NATO member state. The armed forces were officially established on December 4, 1912, by the provisional government of Prime Minister Ismail Qemali immediately following the Albanian Declaration of Independence, and underwent a complete operational transition from a conscript Warsaw Pact military to a fully professional volunteer force upon joining NATO in 2009.
