What it is
The Office of the Prime Minister of Albania (Kryeministria) is the central executive institution supporting the head of government and the Council of Ministers. Its mandate encompasses directing national policy, coordinating the state administration, and preparing and overseeing the execution of government decisions. Established following the Albanian Declaration of Independence in 1912, the post was first held by Ismail Qemali as head of the Provisional Government. After decades under communist single-party rule, the office was reconstituted within a pluralistic parliamentary democracy in 1991.
