What it is
The Parliament of Albania (Kuvendi i Shqipërisë) is the unicameral national legislature of the Republic of Albania, consisting of 140 deputies elected for four-year terms by regional party-list proportional representation. Its constitutional mandate is to enact legislation, amend the Constitution, elect the President of the Republic, confirm and oversee the Council of Ministers, and approve the state budget and international treaties. Established in January 1920 as the National Council (Këshilli Kombëtar) during the historic Congress of Lushnjë, the modern democratic parliament was re-established following the collapse of the communist regime with the holding of multiparty elections in March 1991.
