What it is
The Presidency of Albania is the constitutional institution representing the head of state and the unity of the Albanian people in a parliamentary republic. The president serves a largely ceremonial and guarantor role, acting as commander-in-chief of the armed forces and ensuring adherence to the constitution. Although the title was first created in 1925 under Ahmet Zogu before his proclamation of a monarchy, the modern constitutional presidency was formally re-established in 1991 following the fall of communist rule.
